How to Scoop and Swoop Your Bra
Master the essential bra fitting technique that ensures all your breast tissue is properly positioned for maximum comfort and support.

The scoop and swoop technique is a professional bra fitting method that ensures all your breast tissue is properly positioned within the bra cups. This technique helps you achieve the most accurate bra size and optimal support.
Why It Matters:
- • Ensures all breast tissue is contained within the cups
- • Prevents tissue from being trapped under the underwire
- • Provides the most accurate bra size measurement
- • Maximizes comfort and support
- • Reduces back pain and shoulder strain
Put on Your Bra
Lean forward, bend at the waist, and place your breasts inside the cups. Hook the back band at the most comfortable adjustment. Make sure the underwire sits beneath your breasts.
Scoop & Swoop
With your left hand, grip the top of the wire underneath your left arm. With your right hand, go into the cup and scoop the breast tissue towards the center of your chest, moving all breast tissue in front of and above the wire. Repeat on the other side.
Important: Breast tissue extends around the side of your rib cage. Make sure to reach all the way under your arms to gather all the tissue.
Adjust the Center Gore
Grab the center gore (the "bridge" between the two cups) and pull it up towards your head to ensure the breasts are completely filling the bottom of the cups. The wire should sit beneath the breast and lie flat against the rib cage.
Tighten Straps
Gently pull the top of each cup up and tighten the slack in the straps individually. The straps should provide support but not dig into your shoulders.
Separate and Smooth
Beginning at the center gore, slide your index finger inside and along the top of the cup towards the strap on both cups. This ensures both breasts are in their own cup with proper separation. The center gore should lie flat against the rib cage.

Problem: Cup Overflow
If you experience "fluffing" on top of the cups or between the breasts, the cup is too small. Try a larger cup size - don't be afraid to go up in the cup!
Problem: Tissue Under Wire
If breast tissue is still under the underwire after scooping and swooping, you may need a larger cup size or a different bra style that provides better coverage.
Problem: Center Gore Not Flat
The center gore should lie flat against your rib cage. If it's not, the band might be too loose or the cup size might be incorrect.
Problem: Shoulder Pain
If straps are digging into your shoulders, the band might be too loose and the straps are doing all the work. Try tightening the band and loosening the straps.
Best Practices:
- • Always lean forward when putting on your bra
- • Perform scoop and swoop every time you put on a bra
- • Take your time - rushing can lead to improper fitting
- • Check the fit from multiple angles
What to Look For:
- • All breast tissue contained within cups
- • Underwire sitting behind breast tissue
- • Center gore flat against rib cage
- • Straps providing support without digging
